"THE NINTENDO WII is about to increase its physical, educational and entertainment value tenfold by coming out with a new pole dancing game, which it hopes to integrate into its Wii-Fit line.

A company called Peekaboo, which already sells a non virtual version of the Carmen Electra pole dancing kit, aptly called the 'Electra-Pole', is reportedly working with Nintendo to produce a version of the game for the formerly family-friendly console. Nintendo must be letting its standards slide.

A spokesman for Peekaboo and licensing agency AT New Media, Simon Kay, claims that the game is aimed at both women and men and that pole dancing is great for "fun and fitness". He noted that the game would help people improve their pole dancing skills (an essential attribute in today's world, apparently), tone their bodies and burn calories. He also dubiously added that his company wants "to do for pole dancing what Guitar Hero did for rock n roll!" (What? Make it into a lame living-room fantasy for geeks who can’t actually play real guitars? Oh. Cool. Sounds good).

AT New Media says that it is also planning on developing a mobile version of the pole dancing game. A mobile version? Probably only on phones with a very substantial antenna!"

- What do fellow pole people think about this? I think its great that pole dancing is gaining tons of recognition as a true dance, fitness and sport phenomena - what I don't like is the fact you cant actually do real pole dancing on a wii...well you dont do anything REAL on a wii anyway, and it might make people who don't know nothing about pole dancing think its easy when POLE IS HARDER THAN IT LOOKS! I got the bruises and burns to show for it!

Comments please?

I havent seen the design for WII's "pole" so cant comment on how beneficial it would be to polers and non polers.
although i am concerned on the safety issue of this pole.

1 - what would it be made out of? bendable white plastic?
2 - how good would our grips be on the material?
3 - if its so called portable, how exactly do they plan on assembling this without it moving when you swing/spin? (peekaboo poles are rumoured to be one of the most unreliable poles to be performing spins and many other tricks on other than moving your booty around it)
4 - if they need to keep cost down so ppl would buy this thing, would the "affordable" price be compensated with the quality of the pole?
5 - instructional game. How safe is it with a game pole with no live instructor supervision?

not too worried about the children thing as of course this news would have caused a stir already with parents. PARENTS are the ones responsible for purchasing these items for their underage kids. so cant really sit there and say
"what if our lil 12 year old suzie decides she wants to Pole?"..simple: (to parent): DONT BUY IT FOR HER (DUH!)
"what if our lil 12 year old suzie learnt it from her other classmates houses?"...(to parent:) DONT LET HER GO OVER ANYMORE
"what if our 18 year old janey bought it with her own allowance?" (to parent:) Well, you taught her how to save up to buy what she wants.LET HER BE! better pole at home than at the strip joint =P

Really curious with how this would turn out to be Wink

Pole Dacing Game? Oh la la, WII WII WII! (yes! yes! yes!) Empty no pole like home

hahahhaha true true Lola, parents should be happy they poling at home than in strip joints (has anyone watched Eddy Murphey's DELIRIOUS DVD about his comments about parents and their sole duty is to keep their duaghter away from the pole...) Now parents are gonna actively go out to buy one because the great thing is, pole is a misunderstood and underestimated form of fitness and dance.

BUT on a more serious note, I think the game is gonna be slated and give us real polers a bad rep because anything to do with children and exposing them too soon to the adult world is not gonna be so readily accepted.

REAL POLE is GOOD, and it has taken a decade for the 'good' fitness and dance reputation to be taken seriously and now they are making pole into a TOY? I'm still not convinced, and now actually a bit annoyed....
